Front Mech clamp size

How do I know what size front mech to buy?

My seatpost is 27.2. I presume that if I was to buy a seatpost clamp it would be 28.6, so does that mean then that I need a 28.6 front mech clamp. or do I buy a 31. one and use a shim?

piece of string + a ruler is a fairly simple way.

never presume as invariably it is wrong.

you clamp will br one of the 3 standard sizes. or a direct mount or an E type mount.

but that all depends on the designer of your frame.

So what is it? make, model and year.
