Best to ask in the 'Training' section...

    Rough Guidline:

Gearing: Hill to rideable, I use 39 x 21 or so, or 22 x 32 if using Mtb on steeper terrain.

Reps: Start off at about 3 - 4, build up to about 6 - 8.

    Distance/Time: I use time, 4mins for shorter/sharper hills.
6 mins for longer/less steep hills.

Recovery: About 3 - 5 mins between each rep.

Ned Overend, of the Worlds best climbers says something similar to the above.

    1. find suitable hill - about a mile with 100m climb seems work.
    2. ride up it.
    3. ride backdown.
    4. ride backup.
    5. repeat until done.

use a HRM if you have one
start easy and up the pace slightly each rep.
    warm down afterwards.

Do this fairly reguarly and you soon start to see improvments.
