Not sure whether to spend extra on full-sus...

I've narrowed my choice down to two options, but I'm not sure whether I should save £300 and buy a 1kg lighter bike, but risk having a bike that won't handle tougher trails.

Basically, anything is better than the horrible Universal bike I've got now.

Or how about a 300 quid more hardtail?

I think I could only convince myself to spend that kind of money if it was full-sus :P

    Have a look at this:

Superb spec for the money, and great fork.

I was following a guy on a Mongoose the other day round a trail through some singletrack, it was bobbing like mad.

Either he had his suspension setup stupidly bad or the bike is just poor.

Why ? There is no correlation between quality and amount of suspension.

FS and HT are 2 different things for 2 different needs on 2 different terrains.
Full suspension is not particularly an upgrade to HT unless you live in the Alps and/or only do DH. HT are often (but not always) a better idea than FS regardless of whether they are cheaper or more expensive.

In this instance, £300 would be much better spent on a better HT than a cheapo FS.

FS isnt an upgrade to a HT?

Tell that to my arse after a long day in the saddle.

I wasn't suggesting that a more expensive FS would be better quality, but it's my understanding that to get a similar spec you have to spend extra because of the added components.
