What's the trick with quick link

Get the link very clean by spraying with wd40. Squeeze the sideplates together at the same time as pushing the rollers together. Quicklink pliers make it a whole lot easier, or you can use a bit of wire coathanger to achieve the same pinching together of the rollers.0

how wrong does that sound!0 -
Grab a few extra links either side of the quick link. It gives you something to get holdoff & stops the chain wiggling about as much when you try to split the varmint!
Practice does make perfect & when you've cracked the technique a sense of achievement & relief are the normal emotions...prior to this moment it'll do your f*****g head in.0 -
I joined a new KMC onto new build. In my excitement i forgot to thread it through the FD so i had to undo it. I then rejoined it and then realised i forgot to measure the chain :x There was alot of cursing.
I think i get that tool.
Thank you.0 -

I tried that as well, thought i had it sussed when i did that. The links refused to budge. It might not been helped from being dry chain. 2 thin nosed pliers looked ideal. In the end i used a claw type plier that fitted both ends.
I just can't carry a big set of pliers with me when i'm out, so i get a smaller tool. Doing it with just hands is a no no for me.0 -
Try it with a short length of coathanger wire0
