star nut and head set

is it possible to fit a star nut and a head set with out having to spend a small fortune on 2 tools that i will never use again?

    yes, or get you LBS to sort it.

    you can carefully smack it in using a hammer, top cap and a bolt as a center and drift...

    I've done it in the past and it works fine, but you do have to be delicate and careful with a hammer...

    LBS is better if you're worried about not getting it straight which will not be great for your headset.

    Easy to fit, get a v brake pad, screw it in the star nut hold one end of the pad and tap it in with a hammer. If it starts going in a bit skew just spin the pad and tap again until it straightens. Once in straight, use the length of the post to set the depth. Takes two minutes.
