Canti brakes on Touring bike
Hi all, off to the Alp's in the next couple of months for a weeks touring, and am worried that my brakes are not up to the job on my touring/ cross bike.. I have got a 9speed Campag groupset, with Daytona Ergoes, with Suntour canti brakes. I have always struggled with braking power, and have never been impressed with their stopping capabilities.
I was wondering if anybody has any advice on how I can improve braking performance. I have thought about upgrading to Shimano ten speed as I am wondering if the shape of an STI lever will give me more leverage.
Many thanks

Easiest solution is some good quality bake pads, swiss stop or similar...
Although never to be used as a full on tourer, I went through mini v-brakes, low profile cantis and finally Tektro cantis on my P-X Kaffenback to find something that worked well with old campag ergolevers but there was a definite advantage to having better blocks even on the mini v-brakes (which I couldn't get on with at all).0 -
Cheers will give them a go, as I usually use cheap kool stop canti brake pad's. Have tried a couple of different sets of canti's but have never found anything as powerful as the Dura Ace brakes on my race bike. Thinking of purchasing some Frog leg's canti's to see if they improve performance.0

I was unimpressed with frog legs.
Tektro CR720s are very good, and cheap:
