Track Bike fit and size questions...

I'm currently progressing through the system to gain accreditation at Manchester Velodrome, hopefully I can race the track leagues later on this year. I've been using the hire bikes (Dolan) so far, now I'm as far as the skills sessions I'm having to pay for bike hire. If ever there was an excuse to start looking for another steed for the stable this is it.
I'd really like a Planet X Pro Carbon Elite, but I may have to wait and settle for a cheaper option now.
I've had a proper bike fitting on my road bike by Adrian TImmis (www.cadencesport.co.uk) and know and feel what suits me best, but what is the best way to transpose this over to a track bike?
Is there a maximum recommended stem length I should use? I currently use a 120mm stem on a 54TT, would a 120mm on the track give the bike twitchy handling?
Should I be concerned about bar to saddle drop, or just go for the same as the road bike?
Experienced help would be much appreciated!

At this stage of your track riding experience I would suggest setting up the same as your road bike. The only exception to this would be narrower handlebars – try to go for a max 42cm C-C, narrower if you can. Concentrate on comfort and control just as you would with your road bike rather then how low you can get straight away. You won’t have any issues with a 120mm stem.
You will just need to remember that your reference points will be slightly different with a track frame when doing the set up i.e. the BB is higher.
You can get in to working with lower, longer or shorter positions once you have a bit more racing experience and understand which disciplines you want to concentrate on.
The saddle to bar drop on my track bikes is hugely different to my road bikes but that’s because I’m a sprinter – if I was riding mass start/endurance events, I’d look at the set up differently and mirror my road position.
I hope that helps as a start.I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -

I know it's a while since anybody posted here but I'm curious as to how the accreditation/bike build went? I'm currently doing my accreditation in Manchester and have signed up for the regional league starting 8th Oct.. Quite nervous about the first race actually. Have you done any racing yet or will you be my 4th cat competition on the 8th?!0

Hi,
The accreditation went well thanks, the derny part of the session was awesome. I didn't buy a bike until two weeks ago, I went for a used Dolan Track Champion with 50mm carbon wheels.
The plan is to get some more track time in, SQT's and some training before I hit the boards in fury! I'll be going for the Monday night ACT league first though. I believe it to be slightly more forgiving than the Friday session.
Good luck, hopefully I'll see you down there.0 -
I have some tubs for you my dear Spanielsson...0

I did my skills session on Sunday night so only have the induction to do now and hopefully I'll get to play with the derny!
2 guys took a tumble in front of me and sent me over the bars as well so I've got my first crash out the way (many cuts and bruises which us surprising as it wasn't particularly fast and not even high on the track) so I've gotten over that particular fear now too!
Didn't know there was a Monday night league. I shall have to look into that once the accreditation is done. Is that run by the velodrome itself?0
