Hi
Am new to this forum, and new to long distance biking.
Have peddaled for years, MTB and road, but only out for a couple of hours.

My problem is the further i go, ther more saddle sore I get.

I have quality shorts, use cream, and do everything I should, but i get sore from rubbing on saddle.

I have an old saddle which is quite thin, 140mm, and flexible, this is much better than my modern flatter saddles.

My question is ______

Which are most comfortable slim saddles?
What would a Brooks be like on a road bike, any suggestions of model?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers

I'm afraid it's trial and error. It comes to how you feel, doesn't matter how much people give you references to their fave saddle it may not suit you. The saddle I have came with the bike and I'm used to it now, but my father hates it.

That pretty much sums saddles up.

Try some cheap second and saddles till you find one you like, then get a new one of that model, I would recommend a one of these, as it is quite thin and soft http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/produ ... omp_Saddle

Brooks Swift - ti frame if you can spare the cash. Like Marmite - you love them or hate them but after a few hundred miles they really do mould to fit your ar**. Salle Italia Max Flite is about the best of the many others I've tried (but not as comfy as a Brooks.

Ive just got this http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/SAP ... eam-saddle. After a fairly long search of various saddles including a charge spoon this one seems comfy for me. Its a copy of a fizik arione.

On my Allez, I changed from the factory fit Specialized to a Brooks Team Pro.

After about a hundred miles its really good, no soreness at all, even when breaking in.

Some bike shops will loan saddles to try. San Marco is one mark that is sometimes loaned for up to two weeks..> http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/new-saddles-from-selle-san-marco-24475

As said it is process of trial and error.

I ended up with a Specialized Toupe.

You could remove the saddle, lube up the seatpost and slip on that. I'd avoid potholes though...

Just upgraded to a Selle Italia Rolls and it is fantastic. Well, for the 20 miles I've ridden on it, it is.

Just had a 50 mile run out, i put my 25y old saddle on from my old steel bike, bit battered.

It felt a lot more comfortable than the Selle SLR, which i was trying, no chaffing.

In comparison, my oldm saddle is thinner at 130mm, but the top has a more rounded shape, the SLR is quite flat. So i think i know what to look for, thin saddle with rounded look to it.

The weight makes no difference, you loose more yourself by riding the bike more

Looks ok to me, although comfort is more important,a dn no numb bits

I'll be able to take photos later (of the bike)

Selle Italia Rolls, it looks a bit old school (call it traditional) but it is nicely rounded with firm padding, get one off Ebay for little money and try it :D

    Pictures, as promised.

Your backside covers the saddle most of the time, I'd rather be comfortable, than look sleek, but be in agony

  • I have a Brooks B17 on my Giant SCR 1. It looks a little bit odd, but it is very comfy. However, I just couldn't bring myself to put a Brooks on my Planet X!!

A guy I used to offroad with used womens' saddles. He refused to have a hard one and prefer a comfy, 'settee' for his butt.

Btw you have some crabgrass on your lawn
