I need to replace my gear cables on my shimano ultegra and also i need to get a spare set, is there any cheaper universal gear cable sets on the market at the moment that are compatible than the dura ace, at €31.90 being the only kind in stock in Chainreactioncycles they are a heafty price... any help would be much appreciated??

Buy a couple of inner cables and then 2 metres of uncut outer and cut it to length yourself.More problems but still living....0

I use Jagwire "Racer" cables and housing. No difference in performance compared to Shimano Dura-Ace shifter cables and cheaper. Most cables you can buy today are good quality but sometimes the cheaper generic versions sold at shops are not quite as durable and positive shifting as the top end stuff.0

Assuming you only need to replace the cables and not the housings you can buy cables for a couple of quid each.

For example (all bike shops sell them, just ask for a Shimano Road compatible gear cable, I don't actually think you even nead to specify road).
I replace cables after every winter (precautionary measure, I've had them break on me before), housings generally only get done if I think there's a reason to.0 -

I've just changed mine to Jagwire racer off fleabay. £20 squid, and the bike shifts much better than with the crap cables it had before. Piece of piss to change cables as well for me first time!0
