Hi folks,
I know it's covered millions of times, but just looking for advice from here & my LBS.
My bike: Trek EX8 (09)
Where I ride mainly: Swinley Forest (The lookout) & Afan.
Current tyres: Bontrager MudX
Current thinking: Maxxis High rollers F&R
Maxxis Ignitors F&R
High roller front, Ignitor rear.
I'm open to suggestions
I don't want anything draggy, but I'm not a super fast rider or anything. Swinley is a mix of hard pack man made trails and muddy natural stuff (although obviously the mud is more an issue over winter hence my current tyres) So really, I need tyres for 3 seasons, and when the winter comes I'll put the Mud X's back on.
Again, sorry as I know it's been done do death. Any advice would be great.

Depending on how aggresively you ride either 2 ignitors or HR front and Ignitor rear are perfect choices. The only question remaining seems to be widths. Personal preferences really. I have 2.1 Ignitor Rear, 2.35 High Roller front, perfect for me but my riding is more AM.0

Yes I had High Rollers on my Meta 5 and they were very good and okay for all year round use. Good and grippy in most conditions but roll a bit slow. I've got Mountain King 2.2 Protections on at the moment which are good and fast and light but not as grippy as High Rollers. Depends how hard you ride really....Commencal Meta 5.5.1

I am currently using a 2.35 Ignitor up front and a 2.1 Highroller rear, both LUST. This is the best set up I have used and rolls really well. I had 2.1 Highrollers both front and back and get so much more confidence now from the wider Ignitor up front. I ride Swinley every week and try to get to Afan every few months so your riding grounds are mine too!Adam.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

+1
I'm running 2.35 H/roller front, 2.10 ignitor rear on my trek ex8 after a winter on the bonty mud x's.
To be honest i haven't ridden fast enough to find the limit of these tyres yet but i did that easily with the mud x's when the trails dried up.
I'm not sure of the weight but the high roller was a lot heavier than the mud x it replaced.0 -
Thanks for your advice chaps.
Sounds like 2.35 F and 2.1 R is the preferred way.
I was under the impression that the HR is grippier than an Ignitor, so would go on the front, but Adam, your set up is the other way around. This works better for you?
I'll be ordering/buying the tyres next week. Which compounds should I be looking at? (BTW I'm using tubes)
