Spoke hole plugs / Veloplugs
I'm building up some nice light wheels and have been tempted by veloplugs rather than rim tape. Does anyone have any experience of using them? Is there a greater risk of flats compared to good old fashioned cotton tape? I plan to use latex tubes if that will make any difference.
I don't think the advantage of saving up to 16 g per wheel! outweighs any increased risk of punctures.

Some people here have reported problems with Veloplugs, but I have used them and they have been fine - with latex tubes.
There are two different sizes depending on the size of spoke hole you have so clearly important to get the right ones. The tops are oval shaped so I was careful to line them up with the wheel to make sure no part of the lip was against the rim wall where it might lift them.
So far I have been very pleased with them - mostly because I have Campag Neutron wheels which have the tightest fitting rims on some tyres I have ever experienced and the Veloplugs give slightly more clearance in the well than rim tapes. Incidentally those wheels take the larger (yellow) size.I\'m sure I had one of those here somewhere0 -
We are compiling a Veloplug compatibility list at BikeSweets.com because of the lack of Veloplug compatibility information. Feel free to use it, add to it, or correct it. Just started it, so there are many blanks to fill in.

i'm tempted too, haven't decided yet, i've read a few posts about them elsewhere, seemed positive overall, couple of things i remember...
on some rims they could fall out when changing the tube, because the fit was loose and/or they stuck to the tube - seems some people glue them in to avoid this
can be worth putting a short piece of rim tape at the valve hole, otherwise on some rims the bare hole may damage the tube around the valvemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0
