Hi, struggled to find somewhere to post this so opted for here!
In a box of bits I got I have a lovely front mech, full ally body, all lovely shapes,107grams, 28.6mm clamp, the only label on it is 'mirage'.
I know some campag models are acalled mirage (being an MTBer I don't know much about campag stuff) where does it sit in the grand scheme of things and do the Mirage bits say campag anywhere on them?

Mirage (now discontinued) was on the budget end of Campag's groupsets, one above Xenon. A front mech is as simple a piece of engineering as you'll get on a bike, all it does is nudge the chain sideways and there is bugger all difference in performance between the cheapest and the most expesive and lighter models.
It will probably have the Campag logo etched on the outside of the sideplate. I've had one for years on the winter hack and it does the job perfectly.0 -
Mirage goes back to the early 90s and there have been a number of models. When it was introduced, it was the base range. Until recently, I was using Mirage kit of the era on one bike, it was strong and reliable, just not having the light alloy an titanium of high-end ranges.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Well the clamp and two swivels are alloy, only the chain guide part is steel (other than pins n bolts n springs!), its a really nicely made bit compared to the cheaper steel shimano I'm used to, even the hi and low srew stops are internal.
There is definately no other logo on the part anywhere.
The weight at 107grams is a lot lower than you'ld expect from the lower end stuff (low end steel Shimano circa 175g, mid range alloy Shimano circa 135g), so perhaps its not campag' then!

That be prime Campagnolo right there, all their parts have the same shape pretty much, looks like the Veloce one I have.
Nice, not worth anything, but perfectly serviceable.God made the Earth. The Dutch made The Netherlands

Thanks for the help.
So the consensus is that it is campag, and although labeled Mirage appears better than the normal cheaper end mirage level parts!

I agree. That weight is pretty representative for mirage level kit so I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary. It looks a bit more like the late 90s / early 2000s Mirage than the more modern stuff but I don't think the front mechs seemed to change that much throughout.0
