when ever i remove my seat post it has an orange rusty residue on it from my steel P7 frame. Water's probably got in when i've been washing it.
i'm know steel needs serious rusting to effect its strength but should i be worried? is there any treatment or owt i should do to protect it?
any advice / experience would be welcomed!!
Cheers

Nah, I'd not worry too much about it. My 456 does the same thing.
Unless it lives outside, or you wash it in the sea, it's unlikely to rust to a point where it has an effect on strength over many many years of use.0 -

yup, same on the salsa nothing to worry about, if you really wanted give it a spray with wax oil to coat the inner frame (pick it up from wilkinsons) but as above don't worry!0

This condition is in fact very serious. I specialize in taking dangerous bikes out of the UK market, which could injure the rider, or even cause death. If you send me a PM, I'll give you the address to send it to0

Simple thing is just to remove your saddle and seatpost whenever you store the bike. Lets all that moisture escape and lessens the corrosion. Trapped moisture breaks everything!Proved by testing to be faster than a badger.

Having had 2 Orange frames rust though around the bottom bracket shell (albeit both over 10 years old) I would disagree with what's been said above. Both those bikes were well looked-after and always kept inside, at least while I owned them. Orange frames have a reputation for rusting, so I'm not alone.
On my new steel frames I always spray the inside with wax retardant and keep an eye on them. Apart from being bloody annoying, it's also dangerous. One of my Clockworks split right up the down-tube because of a rusting through by the BB shell.
