Rear Shock Stroke Length

I am looking at buying a new rear shock for my bike, I am just wondering, the spec for the bike a Prophet says 200mm 50mm.
My Question is would I be able to get away with buying a 200mm 55mm?
Will it have an adverse affect on the handling at all?
