Good Value Bike for Trail Riding - £1000 Budget

Hi guys I have a colleague who has decided to start doing some trail riding as he has had enough of road riding. He has a cycle to work scheme budget of £1000 and is currently look at getting a Specialized FSR XC Comp 2010 Mountain Bike from Evans.

I just wanted to find out if there are any more suitable options and if this bike was ok for what he is looking to do. He is currently based in Epsom so will be doing a lot of the trails around there and Surrey Hills.
