eBay dispute...

Well, I've just had to open a dispute up.

I bought some Thule 761 bars from a seller, but what turned up, IMO isn't 761 bars. I'd be happy if someone has some to post a picture up of the ends. The one's I have bought don't have a cut out bit underneath them, so I can't slide the feet into them.

The seller is adamant that what he sold is 761 bars, and that if they don't fit the feet, then it is my fault for buying the wrong item! But of course, I bought them thinking they are the right ones :(

I've since bought some more, so I hope this can be resolved quickly. Luckily he left me feedback once I paid for the item, so he shouldn't be able to make me look bad.

WHat does it say on them? Any model numbers or codes?

Haven't got them with me, I've left them at work. There is a model number on them 853-3553 (I think), which according to google, the only thing that comes close is Halfords. I'm not certain, but I think Thule 761's will at least say Thule on the end caps (which should twist or something, so they attach?) The bars I have just have a simple black cap on them.

    I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Update, ok, the listing was for Thule 761 Traditional Roof Bar Rapid System. He's now saying that where I've gone wrong is that these are Traditional Roof Bars, not the aerobars that I must need as they have a slot in them. I have found a link to Traditional 761 bars, but you can't see if there's a slot under them. The photo certainly has a different end piece to the ones supplied.

Oh my God, this is p*****g me off. I bought some bars that I wanted, as I would like them before Friday. Ebay went and opened a case on the wrong bars, so I've had a refund from a bloke who seems upset and unsure as to why I bought them, and another bloke havin a go at me saying I'm wrong!
ouchthathurts They're the one's I'm thinking of, however, imagine that groove not in them, that's what I've got.
I'm not sure if I should post a link up as I'm in a dispute :?

Just had this response from the seller:
well it just shows you your wrong then does'nt it I have just come back from halfords and guess what i am correct in what I am saying. However, regardless of my feelings over this. I will refund you what you paid for these bars, less the postage. When these bars get returned to me at your cost i will refund you the purchase price only. I dont why i should have to pay for your incompetance. Thats my final offer, take it leave it

If they ain't as described then you have a case.

If there is not enough info to determine it, and you still buy, I guess caveat emptor.

Well I'm no expert but I'd say you've been sent the wrong bars and you're in the right, ummm, but seeing as that link shows what the bars should look like and if those were the bars advertised and he's sent you something different then good luck explaining this to him and ebay, he may be under the illusion he's in the right, or he may know he's in the wrong, who knows...

shame about ebay messing up, not sure who's fault that is but sounds a pain...

anyways good luck and keep us updated

I've got in touch with the bloke who refunded me, he's happy with the situation and I've bought them (again) from him haha

    supersonic you have PM

Am I the only one that thinks his offer is terrible? He's offering me £21 which I paid for the item, is refusing to give the £6 I spent on P&P, he's also then saying that I should pay for them to be returned. So I'm down £12, and he has a set of bars which he an sell for £21, meaning he loses effectively nothing!?
Or did I just make that up?

I also think you have been sent the wrong bars. The pictures I have seen show they have a slot underneath. Item number: 320520951345
    Item number: 320521635912

Thule do another fixing system which does not use a slot in the bars. img22092005202005.jpg

Seems the only big difference between the Aerobar and the Square Bar is the Aerobar is made of aluminium and has less wind resistance.

    Give Thule an email.

Aero bars also have a slot running the entire length of the bars on top(i have both Aero and square)and you use a small "T" bar to fit your roof bars instead of brackets. In my experiece Aero bars are noisier.

Well, I have a result. eBay stepped in after I said I didn't want to talk to him any more, and they've said that the seller will refund me all money back including P&P :D I've organised for them to be sent back to him, they should be off tomorrow.

I have photos for you, make your own minds up and tell me what you think. If you think I'm in the wrong, please say so.

  • They don't look anything like my Thule bars. I don't know what number they are, but they have a slot about 8" long machined in from each end. So do my older Paddy Hopkirk bars.
