Cleaning Bike Bottles

Does anyone have any good recommendations for removing the orange staining colour from bike bottles that lucozade sport powder causes?

I have tried the dishwasher and also Miltons Sterlising Fluid.

I use miltons sterlising fluid as soon as i'm finished with the bottle, gets rid of most of the staining

Vinegar is pretty effective for removing stains like that, but you need to thoroughly rinse/Milton it afterwards otherwise you get a gopping taste in your mouth the next ride!

I use white bottles for my energy drinks, and clear bottles for water.
Plastic is a porous material, and there will always be some product absorbtion that you just can't get rid of.

Wouldn't sticking them in the dishwasher get rid of any nasties in the bottle? Or does something like Miltons do the job better?

Always dishwasher, come out clean and disinfected.

Straight into the dishwasher once used, or atleast soaked and they come out clean and fresh.

I use baby sterilising tablets rather than Miltons, but probably the same effect. Seems to clean up most of the staining in bottles, camelbak reservoir and (incidentally) plastic chopping boards! I do tend to use hotter water than suggested, which maybe makes the active ingredients more aggressive...

Do rinse well after use though as chlorine doesn't taste too nice

Bit of fairy liquid, hot water and a good scrub out. Cold rinse and your done.

No ill after effects so far, if there are any bugs in there I reckon they deserve to live after one of my cleans ! 8)

scrubbing scratches the plastic... makes it worse in the long rub.
Abrasion is bad, even mild.

Bicarbonate of Soda. Tip from my mother. Seems to work well. Taste any lingering taste away anyhow.

Only if you've left some juice in and it's gone mouldy and only then if it's the wrong type of mould.

Were have all the men gone, the best way to get your bottles clean is give them to your wife and tell her no cleany, no house keeping. mine sparkle like new !!!!!

Cheap and owning a wife are words that should never be used in the same sentence.
wtf is lidl or asda ? in my world if a man goes to a supermarket he is either a singleton who's mum has passed away, a widower or man who drinks lemon tea ! if ya know what i mean.

Tesco.com is the future that way your wife can get the shopping done and free herself up for yard duties.
