Front Derailleur

Hi there,
I'd be grateful if anyone could please tell me what size band-on front derailleur I require for my 753 frame (SB7953). (I've become a bit paranoid about sizes, after my seatpost experiences).
Are there any lightweight front mechs thats anyone can recommend ? Will a modern mech such as the SRAM Rival or SRAM RED do the job ? (It would be for a double chainset).
I'd be using it with Simplex RetroFriction Shifters (non-indexed).
Thank you for any advice.[/code]

The most common size for steel frames was 28.6mm diameter.
Another option which can help avoid buying too many derailleurs is to get a "braze-on" mech, and there are clamp on adaptors which you can get in all sizes relatively cheaply. See here for a sample and they have a 28.6mm in stock:

If you already have a clamp on mech which is too large for the seat tube on your bike, you can even get shim bands to adapt them. I used some to fit a 31.8 clamp to a 28.6 tube and it worked perfectly.
