i have a road bike, bin for a ride or two,
have been suffering from shoulder/neck pain, not so much when riding, but afterwards.
is this due to the position on the bike? or warming up etc?
any thoughts

It could be due to, or made worse by, the position on the bike. If you are too stretched out with too much weight on your hands and with your arms completely straight it can cause this. But it may just be because you are not used to riding a road bike, everyone experiences this a little at first but it often gets better once you have been riding more.
It's good to have a stretched out position with your back relatively flat, but you shouldn't have all of your weight on your hands with your arms completely straight all of the time and your elbows locked. Once you develop core strength and more leg strength it is easier to be stretched out while keeping your body supported more by your lower body and core muscles. But if the fit isn't right and the reach to the bars is too much it will cause problems.0 -
thanks for getting back,
from what you've said looks like i have to just get used to the ride style

Hi,
I am new to "proper" road bikes, after having ridden a hybrid for a while, and I am finding the same shoulder pain afterwards.
I think its a combination of the new riding position, but I has also found that I tend to tense up my shoulders aswell, so I am making an effort to make sure I relax them.0 -
Are you carrying anything on your back? I.e. Hydration pack, ruck sack.0
