Can't get cable out of campag mirage shifters

Hi,

I'm trying to change the rear mech cable, as it was starting to stick and not change smoothly/at all.

Disconnected the wire at the back, but can't work out how to get it out of the campag shifter at the front. From what I've read it seems to be a case of just pushing the cable through, however that really isn't working for me.

The cable looks to be frayed/twisted, and I think that was the cause of the sluggish shifting. (it's not rammed with dirt)

Help!

Zero out the gears by depressing the thumb shifter until you run out of clicks. With the hood pulled back you should be able to see the end of the cable and it should 'just push out'.

    Ta for the tip.

I did that, turned out that the cable had frayed all the way along, and strands of it were stuck in the mechanism inside the shifter. As these strands were connected to the rest of the shifter I couldn't get the cable out.

Ended up having to pry the cable out using a corkscrew. Then cutting the end off, so that I could pull out individual metal strands that were stuck in bits of the shifter.

Anyone know how or why the cable got stuck like that?
Took me over an hour to fix and really want to avoid it in the future...

Might just be a faulty cable - generally Ergo shifters don't chew cables - the same can't be said for STIs - trying to get a stuck cable out of an STI can be a right pain.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
