Bottom Bracket Help

I've just fittted a new square taper bottom bracket which is a genuine Shimano item. It was a pig to fit in that I was able to screw in so far by hand and then a certain amount of force was required to tighten up the bracket and now it will not go any further. My question is I am now left with about 2mm of exposed bracket and one line of thread showing, is this enough to do the job with the crank or do I need to start again. I did fit correctly using the right 113mm bottom bracket with lots of grease.

Mm, doesn't sound right. Did you take care to clean the threads first?

Is the bottom bracket for a 68mm shell and not a 73mm?
It may be your threads need cleaning, your LBS can do this for you.

the UN54s always leave some of the placky cup exposed, if that's what you've just fitted. Just the way they are. As long as it's fully in on the driveside and the placky cup is effectively holding the non-driveside then it's fine.

You don't say which side the threads are exposed. Fit the driveside fully in, then use the placky cup to nip up the non-driveside, with plenty of grease.
