First of all hi from a newbie.....
I'm buying a bike for my wife (sub £400) and was wondering if the Cape Wrath's were worth viewing. So far we've looked at the Specialised Myka HT Sport, Trek Skye SL, Trek 4300, Specialised Hard Rock Sport Disc and Giant Yukon........
Also looking at the Gary Fisher Wahoo........
I can get a Cape Wrath D27 '09 for £392 or a D24 for £299, there's a few variations on the D27 all for under £400 but I can't find any reviews......
As you can see we're not sticking to woman specific, my wife is 5'1 and on the bikes we've tried she's fine with the reach on a 16" standard bike.....
Any comments and help welcome........

Well, fine on one those particular 16 inch bikes - the next one may be totally different.
On paper the Claude Butler is the best value, by far.0 -
Anybody know a stockist in Central Scotland to try a Claud Butler out...?? All the listed stockists on the Falcon website don't show that they even sell them when you go to their own websites......Dartmoor Primal 26" 1 x 10, 40 expander

Not sure about the 09 model, but I've got a Cape Wrath '07 - my first serious MTB and I'm still using it every now and then. The 07 got a great bikeradar review (below). It got loads of mag 'best buy' awards IIRC. So unless they completely blew it two years later...

(that said, we bought the good lady a Myka HT Sport Disk over Christmas and she loves it to bits...)

Yip, as I said, tried that, but when you follow to each of the dealers own websites, they don't list any Claud Butler bikes.........Dartmoor Primal 26" 1 x 10, 40 expander

I bought a Cape Wrath back in 2003, as did my wife, and they were fantastic value for money back then. I've chucked quite a bit at mine over the years and it stood the test.
We've still got them in fact. I converted one of them to a SS, but they are both stripped down now, but I intend to build my wife's back to it's former glory for her in the near future.
The Mavic wheels XM117's and X139's that came with both bikes stayed true and took a fair bit of hammer, and I've still got them as emergency back-up wheels...although the cups are pretty worn now. The Judy TT forks weren't the greatest, but for £320, at the time, the bike was worth every penny. It's a geat little climber too.
Based on my experience of the CW, I would highly recommend if the later models are as good.0
