It's midweek, I am up early, chewing on some muesli before heading off to work which I now call "Solvet City" as it's a brand new building and smells of paint, new carpets, sealers and adhesives..

Any of you have any exciting planned for the day?

Off to a "Hustings" type thing tonight to heckle some local politicians...

Someone forgot to turn on the sunshine this morning, it's dark, grey and a tad on the cool side this morning. Still got the headwind on the ride in, which should make the commute home awesome. Rode the Focus this morning, as I can't find a good way of fitting lights onto the TT bike.

About to have 2nd breakfast, which today consists of a Morrison's meat (of dubious origin) and potato pie.

Also, as my coffee minion isn't in today, it looks like I'll have to fetch my own coffee. You just can't get the staff these days...

well its day 5 of not smoking  I had a couple of ciders last night and would of quite happily killed a little girls puppy for a ciggy! on a lighter note my father is taking my holiday money to be changed into euros at work (better exchange rate than the civvys) and its only 3 days till i'm off to the alps snowboarding :D

Hercule Q I'm sure you'll enjoy the fresh air in the Alps a lot more without the smoke around, use that as a goalpost! You'll be fine.

Well, the ride in today was great. Bit chilly, but soon warmed up, and I felt like I was flying in. Overtook a roadie, who didn't look to pleased, so we took up a couple of lanes racing each other :D
Tonight I'm off to some random courier depot to collect a package, which i think is a present for a friend  I bought her a vibrating egg, it's going to be funny givin her the present, well, i hope it will  Then I'm off to a friends to hopefully buy a thule roof rack off him for my car.
Cat With No Tail If all goes well, we'll definitely be taking the bikes to BR Live!

    + kiwi fruits (?)

    Morning all,

Just been told that I can no longer leave my clothes in the 1st aid room at work, I can use it to get changed but then have to bring everything out and put it somewhere else. So now need to find somewhere to put my smelly clothes during the day, I have a small cabinet behind me but don’t know if stuff will start wiffing if I leave it bundled up in there all day. I think there is a quiet corner of the office I can put them that’s hopefully out of the way.

I’ve been having some bad thoughts last night and this morning. Work has just announced the new CTW scheme. Now, I have the Scale which I’m happy with and the rat bike for commuting and I was perfectly happy with this until I saw the scheme. I know I don’t have the spare cash to blow the full grand on maybe a full boinger, but I seem to have these thoughts of getting a cheapish………. ROAD BIKE!  The shame, I think when I get home I need to D-lock myself and then straight to bed with no supper. Help me through these bad times.

    Is it 5 yet?

If my workplace did a CTW scheme, I would probably buy a road bike, or buy a good HT, and exchange* my commuter for a road bike.
Can't honestly say I'm surprised that you have to move your clothes from the First Aid room, probably not the nicest place for it. I would maybe mention to the powers that be that if they offer the CTW scheme, and want people to use it, then they need proper facilities. I wouldn't leave clothes in a cabinet, that'll make everythin whiff.

    *Exchange = scrap

I started asking about facilities last summer and just kept getting told "no budget". I shall ask again now they're actually offering the scheme.

We have a few sites over the UK, some office, some factory. I'm guessing the scheme is probably being taken up more in the factory sites, where they already have such facilities.

I've just moved everything out, my shoes are out the way and I can hang my top up on the coat rack behind me, have had to put the cycling shorts away though as I don't think anyone wants to see them hanging up.

Watch out with the bike schemes now.

Goverment has pushed the Fair market Value payments at the end of the 1 year rental scheme. Second hand prices have remained fairly good this year(due to price hikes i think) so potential with a full second hand market needing to be paid (otherwise the difference is subject to income tax) sometimes the bikes can end up more expensive.

Today i'm sitting at my desk drinking tea hoping the slight ache's i have will dispear today

I've heard this as well. I'll see what I end up having to pay out for the TT bike to actually 'own' it in June.

This is very interesting. Just been on the HMRC site and it seems that the tax benefits of this scheme are being tightened up since 18th Dec 2009. I joined the scheme in May last year. Now reading through the blurb on our intranet site regarding the scheme, it quite clearly states:

The scheme hopes to encourage people to cycle to work, keep fit and reduce their carbon emissions. Under the scheme you can buy a bike and accessories like helmets up to the value of £1,000. The cost will then be deducted from salary payments over a set period, minus the tax.

No mention of this being a Hire Purchase agreement. (Okay, I'm not stupid enough to not know the difference). Not sure how I'd stand legally if I challenged this, but I think that by stating that the original wording of the scheme was misleading might help.

Will see what sort of bill I get presented with.

If you know the companies finance team well, instead of buying the el, you can get tehm to keep it but depreciate it over 3-5 years(depending value) untill it hits net book value 0 then they can dispose of it as they seem fit.
