Bottom bracket for Epic

hi,
Bought a 2004 epic not long back, the pedals creek under pressure ...im presuming its the bottom bracket-is there a way of determining the size without taking it apart?
Are there any checks i can do to make sure im diagnosing it right?
Are they easy to replace if it is the bracket. I realise that the correct tool is needed, but other than that is it leterally slip out and slide new one in?
Help much appreciated!

I have no idea what you are reading. but sorry that is wrong.
Greddy.
what are the cranks?

I am reading in the technical specification that says 68mm shell and a 133.5mm spindle.

and that is not correct info as the HT2 cranksets do not use Octalink splines.
also there is not an Octalink BB with a spindle that long.
but again you are just reading the info given for one version. which happens not to be the same spec as the bike in his sig.

Whoops, oh yeah forgot to check whick model  . Still the same shell size though and yes, I did get ratrher confused with the non existant HTII cranks with octalink BB

They are shimano XTR and thinking about it, on my 2004 stumpy's cranks (the originals) they say hollowtech even though they are octalink :?

Hopefully the tightening of the spokes will make the wheel run true again too as it seemed buckled!! Ive got good quality mavic rims and ive been riding bridle paths for the last week so i could not of buckled it ...must be something to do with the spokes coming loose??!
