Filippo Pozzato: "Still had diarrhea this week. After 220, 230km, he'll be finished"

Juan Antonio Flecha: "Why in de Ronde did he let his team ride on the front? He doesn't know himself. That doesn't happen with us, I don't understand it." (not quite sure who he means by us - presumably the old legends)

Matti Breschel: Who's that? What has he already shown? Winning Dwars door Vlaanderen? That's not comparable with de Ronde or Paris-Roubaix. Had had a little bad luck, sure, but I don't pitty him. Cancellara won't either.

Stijn Devolder: "Top guy who i'd like to see win. He'll go a long way [into the race] but he won't be strong enough at the end"

Hoste and Vansummeren: Slightly untranslatable but closest is " That will come to nothing" i.e. "rubbish".

Thor Hushovd: "In form he could compete, but I haven't seen anything from him this year. He also wasn't good in de Ronde? That'll come to nothing."

Presumably he thinks it's a two-horse race then?

Maybe I haven't conveyed the flippancy enough.

Much better is the section of the interview before the part you translated, Rick.
It's on whether or not he would mind Boonen equalling his 4-wins record, and become Mr Paris-Roubaix nr 2; he presents the best arguments ever to show he doesn;t care too much about it: "I just lost two good friends, that is worse"; "I can see it's all relative now". "In Africa they sometimes cut people's lips or ear off, I think that's worse". No, he doesn't care :lol:

Watch it. The next thing you know is "The Gypsy" will come around your house with a hat-wearing dog on a string.

He seems to rate Boonen and Cancellara.

After all, Boonen could take his exclusive title of winning Roubaix 4 times.

    Sorry Rog!

Does remind me of the scathing comments Le Blaireau comes out with every year in the TdF guide.

LD, he'll get my PowerTap when he prises my cold, dead hand from it...

    .

not exactly a ground breaking insight

more helpful would be his prediction if the race becomes tactical neutralised and lesser lights get away

There are headwinds predicted which might make it play out differently to what people expect.

I think that certainly suits Quick-Step....

Hopefully they're blowing hard enough to let us see Arenberg on Eurosport. I know it'll be online, but still...

Maybe I haven't conveyed the flippancy enough.
Is Paris-Roubaix ever that straight-forward though? Luck plays more than it's fair share.

    2008 was pretty straight forward.
