Yet Another Cheap Road Bike Thread

I'm sorry to post yet another discussion on this matter but have searched for ages for something that will suit me and realised that everyone has completely different needs/preferences surprisingly.
I've road bikes for years, starting with a bmx and later MTB but have decided to branch out and me and a friend are keen to get into road riding and dont really know what to buy/look for. i am looking to spend around 300 give or take 100 im quite flexible and willing to pay a little extra for something thats going to last alot longer and make riding much more enjoyable. i'm, also looking to spend a bit on extras like clips and shoes.
the sort of riding im aiming to do is to work my way up as quick as possible up to being able to ride 60+ miles bi-weekly to make my commute between university and home much cheaper and enjoyable.
i dont have a clue what to look for or where to start as in value for money and quality are concerned. and also i dont know how much i will have to look into sizing as im roughly 6"1 and have quite a stocky build.
if anyone has some recommendations, tips or worthwhile stores and websites to look at im happy to take any advice.
thank you for reading.

forgot to add, am also willing to look at preowned bikes, dont mind a bit of wear as long as it does the job.0
