Hi Im new to road bikes but have been riding MTB bikes for years now.
Im looking at buying a road bike as I want to start entering triathlons, Im a keen runner & swimmer so it just makes sense to combine all 3 and go enter a few events this year.
Budget is around the £1200 mark and the bike will be used for tri's and also some road races. It will also come out for non events too just racking up some miles for fitness etc.
I have been looking at BMC as one really took my liking in evans at the weekend but I'd appreciate some input from you guys who know a lot more about road bikes than me.

Planet X for value for money which is hard to beat.
Someone will chime in with Cannondale CAAD9 at some point i'm sure....0 -
That bike is a cyclocross bike, not really suitable for your needs at all! It's for racing on muddy tracks... Great fun but far away from time trialling and road racing...
Something like a Cannondale CAAD9 with some removable aerobars would be ideal.0 -
If you have an aim to do Tri / road races, i don't think the cyclo-cross BMC is perhaps the best option & you would maybe be better looking at a pure road bike.
the BMC looks OK as a commuter / second bike option but not as a primary steed.
I say some BMC in evans recently and i thought they were poor VFM - they were looking at > £2300 for an Ultegra equiped machine - Panet X would give you a titanium duraace or SRAM red bike for £1800...
no comparison IMO0 -
Thanks for the replies, i take it the c'dale CAAD9 is popular then? Whats all the hype about?0

Basically a race quality frame that's pretty robust. Possibly stiffer than similar price options.Racing for Fluid Fin Race Team in 2012 - www.fluidfin.co.uk0
