Hello all!

I've been looking at buying a specialized bike for the past couple of months, and been looking for one that suits me. I came across a 2007 Allez pro, yellow and black, dura ace components, basically everything you see here http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...07&sid=07Allez

I've rode a couple Allez bikes at my local specialized bike dealer, and do like them a lot. They seem to fit me well, comfortable when riding, and the overall feel and look makes me a happy camper. So I've been scanning for one the past couple of months and came across this one.

Gentlemen tells me the bike is in great condition, with a few minor scruffs here and there, which I expected. No major dents on the bicycle and said he has taken good care of it. He said the bike has approximately 3k miles on it. Everything sounds okay, but 3k miles on this bike? That is quite a bit. With that large amount of mileage, it makes me wonder how much wear the components may have, and if having so may miles may be an issue.

He is asking $1400. The technical specs on it seem good, and the bike retails for about $3800, which makes me think it sounds like a great deal, but with 3k miles, does it really seem like a good deal?

  • If it looks in good condition, 3000miles is not that much for the frame and gear mechs and STIs etc...its only one tour de france! :-)

It may need new tyres, a casette, chain, chainrings etc...which could ultimately set you back about £150-200 if they all need replacing.

Visually you should be able to see things like tyre wear...and if you ride it and the chain feels like its is slipping you'll know that the chain, chainrings and cassette are likely candidates for replacement.
