Cyclingnews are reporting that Lorenzo Bernucci failed to start Flanders this morning due, according to his team, to a high temperature. Meanwhile Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Italian drug police have searched his home in Tuscany and taken away medicine.

It might be nothing, after all, possession of medicine is not an offence if it is prescribed, but it's not going to do Lampre's image any good at a time when their Pro Tour license hangs by a thread.

The licence has been granted in full now.

Note the "fever" tale and the police search. Is he really ill or do the team feel they have to invent a reason for his DNS? You do worry that several teams think they can take the media and fans for fools.

I've subsequently read that the Pro Tour license has been granted. How come Cyclingnews haven't picked up on that (or have I missed that too?)

Fancy a team lying to the media, surely that never happens?

No, you missed that one too (or dismissed it as an April Fool's joke)

I bet Christian Prudhomme can barely supress his glee tonight.
