Loose cassette??
Hi.. please help?
Im building a racer and bought a s/h DA cs7700 9 spd cassette to go on my DA 8sis hub.. it all slides on fine and the lockring tightens up fine. ( ive just done it up by hand for now) but there is about 2mm of space causing the larger 8 cogs to wobble about? the smallest cog seems locked tight.
Any ideas what is going on? I've tried reading up and thought this would work ok!
Many thanks H

is it an 11tooth top sprocket? some only have the slots cut half way through which would prevent it from sliding all the way on if the feerhub splines go right to the end. they are called hyperglide'c' and the older hyperglide standard freehub body. the 'c' stands for compact and the splines stop a few mm from the end to accomodate 11t sprockets. i suspect you have 11t and old freehub. the solution is to put 1mm spacer behind the cassette if you have enough frame clearance or grind a bevel on the end of the body.
look here at the section titled hyperdrive c . its towards the bottom of the page.

THANKS RAKE!! i think you've cracked this one.. it is 11T smallest cog. and the slots fininsh half way in with a bevel. I had a look at the link which is helpful.. I guess the free hub is pretty old as it is uniglide and hyperglide compatible i think. Im not sure I fancy my chances with an angle grinder so think ill go for the spacer option. thanks again. h0
