My front mavic 217 ' s sidewall has cracked and I need a replacement, can ' t seem to get these any more, I need a replacement rim with the same profile so I don ' t need to replace the spokes which are DT thin gauge/ alloy nipples I 've read somewhere that the mavic 517 / 717 replaced the 217 if I got one of these could I hold onto the spokes, can anyone out there enlighten me.

You need to look up the ERD of your rim and compare to the ones you list. It needs to match to within 1mm.0

Cheers Supersonic, I remember reading about the ERD previously, have just found a site which suggests the 517 and 717 's have the same ERD as the 217 ie 539.0

I had a quick look too, and those were the figures I got. I wanted you to check too, as some sources can be off. I agree with the figures.
I think should be fine.
I still have a 217 rim in the shed (though is built up!)0
