I have just brought myself a Trek Fuel EX8 2010, and thinking of getting rid of the Bontrager Rhythm wheelset already on there....? Was reading MBR and they reckon that's the downside to the bike, cr@p wheels!!!
So, any idea's....? (Budget £200-300)
I'll mainly be doing a bit of everything, XC, Trail, Wales here an there so they've gotta be good long term strong wheels that can cope with some tough stuff!
People have recommended the following:-
* Shimano XT complete wheelset (£250)
* Hope 2 with mavic 819 rims (£309)

719 on xt hubs generally recommened alot and Merlin for the build.
or 717 if your light and/or want to save weight0 -
If you are looking at Hope, look at the Hope Hoops. Are about 250 quid for the set0

NO
oh, sorry, did I shout?
hint; caps lock on the leftEverything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -

Hope Hoops on ZTR 355s or ZTR Flows, depending on how heavy/clumsy you are.0

Top tip.
make the topic heading something useful rather than SHOUTING.
thanks.
PS heading changed."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thats perfect if you want tubless but if not, i would probably be looking at the DT Swiss ex5.1/EX500 hoops0 -
Keep what you have.0

It should not be because a magazine said so really, they don't always realise the way wheels are made on an industrial scale and that spoke tension is the key. Unless they self-destruct, you may want to see if you get on with them. I am sure the LBS will tension the spokes for free after a couple of rides. The bike is not exactly light in the first place so saving 100g may not make such a difference.0

I just replaced the stock wheels on my 2009 model with Hope Pro IIs laced to Stans Flow (which I currently run with tubes). The wheels are noticeably lighter (especially the rear) and much stiffer. The main problem I had with the Bontys was flex on hard cornering.
Total weight saving was around 400 g.0 -
Many thanks for all your responses guy's, much appreciated!0
