Time :(

So i just realised i'm going to lose an hour of my life until whoever decided on all this time nonsense says i can have it back again in october, or have i gained one and will then have it stolen again in october? So its just a little confusing, the clocks go forward so suddenly in the space of 1 hour i've become 2 hours older, but haven't had the full enjoyment of that second hour. (am i right or just mad, probably the latter but oh well)

Anyway i'll get to what i really want to talk about, does anyone else think it would be sort of nice if we were on the same time as France, Germany Spain, etc? Ok, the mornings would be darker and depressing but it would mean an extra hour of daylight in the evenings which would be very useful, i know there are lights for bikes and that its often quite nice at night but still an extra hour of light to play with after work/school/whatever people do during the day would be nice wouldn't it, or is it just me?

At the moment there's that time between it getting light and going out to work/school/whatever where i could go for a ride but i'm too tired/hungover to, so that daylight is wasted, an extra hour would mean i could ride a) further b) slower and mess around a bit more while doing it

Opinions? Am I mad?

If you kept the time on BST then come winter, most people would end up going to work in the pitch black, kids would end up walking to school in the dark. Much more accidents would happen almost for certain.
I was reading on the news that it completely messes with farming too, water stays frozen for longer, causing endless problems for animals, and also the time chickens would lay eggs would be an hour later, so the eggs would be late to leave the farm or somethin like that.

I quite like the way we do it. yes you loose an hour now, but nobody complains in October when we have an extra hour's kip.

I prefer having more daylight in the evenings. Gives me more time to go out and ride at Glentress when I go after school. :D

Coudn't give a toss if it was dark for longer in the mornings, cars have lights don't they?

Gives me more time to sleep in the mornings

How do you figure that one out? You still get up at the same time, regardless of how light it is.
And yes, cars have lights, but kids walking to school may not realise that them deciding they're going to cross the road anywhere they like, probably means they won't be spotted until they're directly in front of the lights, resulting in pain.

I'm never awake in the morning, so an extra hour of daylight in the evening is always welcome! :D (could have done with it last night really, ended up washing my bike in the dark - now to go out and see how bad a job i did)

Why would water stay frozen for longer? Why would chickens lay eggs later? Neither of these have concept of time! Time (as in clocks) is a man made thing, not a natural one. Water will melt due to temperature and chickens will lay eggs due to sun rise.
The problem the farms have is, the time scale at which man gets involved with sowing, ploughing ect.....The farmers need day light to do their work. :?

^ +1 on the fact chickens have no concept of time, however it could be something to do with the artificial lighting at the batteries when laying hens are kept.

I lost an hour of my planned day today, I've been back in England for almost 9 years and still can't get my head around this bi-annual time shift malarkey
It also makes things a little more complicated when calling my family who still live abroad, well at least I'll be calling an hour earlier now..

It keeps you on your toes I guess! Realising your an hour later in the day than you expected, or realising you have an hour extra kip.

BST up in Scotland in mid-winter would be HORRIBLE!

Keep with the existing system IMO.

An hour today does't seem much! so your at work in the morning and you go to bed at a rough time, say 11pm. thats actually 10pm in your body clock. Are you going to be tired? Did you get up an hour earlier/later today or just when you woke up?

Years ago I ran pubs and I loved the fact It felt like 9:30 for Tme at the Bar" Ding Ding" and everyone out by 10. Now I am in the real world it just doesnt matter to me. Thats until the boy wakes early and goes to bed later. Damn it

We could always gain the hour and not give it back this time of the year for us to reach this same position in 24 years

No idea, i asked the same questions when I saw the news
It's somethin to do with water troughs would still be frozen at midday (as opposed to 11am - I don't understand it either) so they'd have to work harder. IMO farmers can still get up early/later if it helps them, surely they just need to work on the animals timescale, which would be to do with daylight.

I think we should just keep it as it is, I like bein quirky.

well yeah, but if yo're up at 5, and water unfreezes when light hits it, and you're an hour earlier, then you'd have to wait till 6 or 7 when daylight hits and the sun melts ice etc.

i don't have a problem with it, even though i'd been getting used to it being a bit lighter the last few weeks when goig to work (i set off about 6am) and now it's dark again, and it means it's a bit lighter when i eat my tea. i mean, houses have lights, don't they? ;)

plus it's been proved that if it's darker in the morning, there are more accidents, because people have just woken up, they're not as aware as they would be in a dark evening.

They should leave GMT the f*ck alone. BST is totally useless, the "extra" hour of daylight we are enjoying in the evenings right now would have arrived on its own in 2-3weeks (depending how far north you are).

Does it really need to not get dark until half past ten (or later) in June or later.
