for those of you that have one - it takes remarkably little water to bu@@er them right up if you are on a wet ride, had mine in my altura chest pocket today - its not very well now.......
and if you use the sportypal app, i managed to do 2 laps of the red run at haldon today - the app showed a very different route for each afterwards ??? the route is really narrow most of the way round so cant figure out how it got the map so wrong.....

Well you don't need a degree in engineering to work that one out, and it's not just the iPhone that's vulnerable to water, almost every phone is, some just a little more than others.
I carry mine in an Otterbox Defender case whenever riding or commuting.
It's a big bulky case and by no means totally waterproof, just very water resistant and yes it's helped my iPhone survive a torrential downpour whilst riding..0 -
have a look at the samsung solid extreme phone for 100 quid.claims to be waterproof and shockproof.i've had one for about 3 weeks and still not killed it  .no underwater adventures yet but i think its up to the job and i don't worry where to put it in the rain, just shove it in the most convenient pocket wet or dry.pretty good mtb phone.decent lanyard hole if you want to wear it round your neck too.0

Funny that's not what they say...Otterbox wrote:Case is NOT protective against water
I guess it just means once the water gets in there it has '3 layers of protection' too.0 -
mines been playing up since getting caought out in terrential rain walking round a zoo. it did start to behave again but yesterday it kept coming up with the message " this is not made for the iphone" message.
As for the GPS tracking apps, try trails or everytrail apps, mine have been quite accuarte.0 -
Get the Proporta Beachbouy:

I use mine for every sport I do, and it's never let me down. I've even been shark diving with it and managed to take photos though it (but then subsequently bricked the phone by dropping it out of a moving car on the freeway (doh!).0 -
I carry my phone (currenlty a HTC HD2) in a waterproof beach/surf bag type thing:

Although it says you can use your phone whilst in the case, in reality, it doesn't realy work that well with my phone. But, it is waterproof...0 -
Dropped a few of my Sony phones into puddles and they still worked0

I have had the Samsung solid since December and so far it hasnt died. Been very wet on a couple of occasions, once in the pub when I was very drunk and decided to see if the camera worked whilst dunked in a pint of beer. Yep it is beer proof.
Screen scratches a bit easily though.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
Just get a cheap 10 quid phone like I did and you don't care about it getting damaged.
Just because yo ai't gonna kill it with water doesn't mean you won't by crashing0 -
The i phone is one of the least rugged phones i have seen, Slick, powerful and power hungry like trooper is the other things i'd say.
But recently there have not been to many rugged shock prrof water proof phones for a while.. there used to be a pair of nokias that were, but nothing modern now0 -

My daughter lost her Samsung in the snow while out sledging over the Christmas Holidays. It was over 3 weeks before the snow melted and someone found it and returned it to us. It had a lot of water in it, but we dried it out and it's as good as new! I was pretty surprised - though it would have at least needed a new battery. You don't need eyes to see, you need vision0

You can dunk almost any electronics under water, and as long as it's dry before it gets turned back on like a 100% dry it will often be fine0

Battery life and toughness stopped me buying an iphone - they're lovely gadgets, but a few of my mates have broken theirs and I have a habit of dropping phones0
