CWNT - just a short note to see wht your thoughts are on the 456 - only asking as i've agreed to buy a 456 frame, front shock (obviously) and front wheel of one of the guys from the the local bike club. got it for a pretty good price but need to wait 2 weeks before i get my grubby little paws on it

  • Well, personally, I love mine.

I only originally bought it as a play bike while I saved up enough money for a "proper build". But in the end, even with the heavy bits I had on it, I enjoyed it so much I decided to scrap the new build and put all my money into this as a do-it-all bike.

Not exactly light, but it has a great feel to it and will take a LOT of abuse. Brilliant all rounder. I like how you can build them up as hardcore or XC as you like.

Now I've bought all my lovely shiny bits, I want to save up for another few months and then swap everything over to a Ti 456 frame.

not too bothered about it being light as my current bike appears to be made out of lead. I though it weighed 32lbs, but after checking with better scales it turns out its actually 34lbs.

Really looking forward to getting it, it will be far from the lightest bike due to me transferring some parts from the old bike until i can get some new shiny lighter weight parts. But the fact that i'm going from a 20" frame (which is a bit big for me) to a 16" should give me something that is way more chuckable, and i wont have that fear that i'm going home with a squeaky voice one night.

Just looked again at what i'm getting, and its a 16" 456 frame in red, bomber 140mm air fork (not sure of model), bonty front wheel + mountain king tyre to go with the fork, lx front mech, fsa headset, deore crank and lx bb and a 400mm seatpost. all for £225.00, seems like a bargain to me

That seems like a pretty good price. It's probably haunted or something.

  • lol, haunted

That's a proper bargain that is!

That's the thing with the 456. You'd have to spend a LOT more to get a better frame, and that's all money you can be spending on other things.

You can't go wrong, I love them. I am on my 4th on-one, 2x inbred, 1 summer season and a 456 over the years, the inbred I have now has been demoted to commuter duties and is a single speed rigid.

Go for It you want get better for the money.
