Breathable Waterproof - what have you got?

I've been waiting since Christmas to get a Pace Event 3x3 jacket but they haven't had any large ones in stock and they've been wating for the material from Japan to make more. I've just spoken to them again today and they say it'll probably be another 3 months wait. I've lost patience.
The obvious alteratives are: Altura Attack Extreme or an Endura Flyte, Gore Alp-X.
What have you guys got and what works well?

I use a Rab Drillium which is fantastic. Very breathable, quite light and doesn't get too warm when you're working hard.0

Gore Paclite Cross. Amazing. And lovely in blue.Giant Trance X 2010

I have Nike runners jacket, it was in a bargin bin in JJB at the height of summer and cost me £11.990

I think everything that is over £50 is pretty good, however paremo breaths the best but it needs retreating, gore is good and so is anything made out of event, however just stay away from altura if you don't want to sweat like a very hot sweaty thing, a bit like a boil in the bag.0

Ive got the Drillium too but the hoods a little annoying, when its stuffed in the collar its a bit too high and rigid and it keeps catching on my helmet buckle and pops it open. I have to use it with the hood out all the time which isnt what i wanted, but apart from that im happy with the jacketGiant - https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/334272_10151115280715087_1148897730_o.jpg0 -
I've got a Gore Alp X, I tore the arm on a thorn the first time I wore it, I was well pissed off, IMO I'd avoid Paclite material for mountainbiking.
I now have a Endura Stealth, it's a very tough, waterproof and breathable jacket, I've only managed to tear this one on some barbedwire.
eVent is basically the same as Gore Tex, it's more breathable and I've found when looking at jackets it looks a little sturdier than Paclite - Gore Tex's lightest grade material. I'm not sure if there are cycling specific jackets made out of their heavier weight materials though, not that you'd want one cos you'd sweat loads in it.
DHB make a jacket in eVent (available from Wiggle)0 -
I've got the Altura Attack Extreme.
Top marks from me, fits well, comfy, good breathability and very waterproof.
Was even better cos I got it for £78 last November., I think you can still get it for £99 in some places, maybe less?0 -
paramo velez is brilliant.breathes well, doesn't rustle, isn't ruined by unplanned bramble visits and has pockets and vents in the right places.bit expensive but after many years/miles of use it seems a good investment.home reproofing is easy and it doesn't need gentle handling.very fine indeed  .0

Altura Nevis from Merlin < £40
Works cause I've not been wet or cold from the Winter we've just had.0 -
Got about 10 jackets for Mtb/Road etc.
Breathable?...No
Waterproof? Er, no again.
Don't know of ANY gear that does "what it say's on the tin."
They ALL sell their stuff as being, the best, lightest, warmest, dryest.
I CHALLENGE any and all the Mtb/Road/Walking companies, HERE AND NOW, to give me a full range of their kit, to test, in REAL N.Wales conditions for a year, for free.
In return, I will then write a REAL LIFE/SUBJECTIVE description of their performance.
What's that I hear? TOTAL SILENCE??? I thought so.0 -
I have an Endura Venturi eVent jacket for mountain biking (about £150)
and Endura Gridlock jacket for commuting (about £45)
no complaints with either
the eVent jacket is so breathable its actually cold in colder weather, unless you get your layering right
I've also found it much tougher and easier to maintain than previous Gore Tex jackets I've ownedCall 01372 476 969 for more information on UK\'s leading freeride park - Esher Shore www.eshershore.com0 -
Berghaus packlite has lasted me a good few years, that with the raceface waterproof trousers and the rain doesn't bother me in the slightest.0

Got an active mountain bike jacket from mountain warehouse in a sale for about £30. Breathable and waterproff. Job done 8)Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

2013 Trek 1.2

Given up on expensive breathables. As others say, they don't do what it says on the tin! (Unless you stick to unenergetic dawdling.) I'd be better off wearing my wet suit.
I've gone back to ordinary stuff, and plenty hot and wet I get too, by effort! (I love that big cloud of steam as I strip off in the car park.)0 -
to be fair it's purely down to an individuals own unique physiology as to what results each garment delivers, most will work within the parameters they state give or take. If you fall outside that then they won't work as well, if you suffer from hyper-perspiration and are prone to overheating then there ain't a lot can be done. My Nevis works perfectly with all vents open up to 5° but it struggles much over that because I tend to overheat.0
-
I have a Berghaus Haven for Spring/Summer use.
It is pretty waterproof, but I am in the same boat as blister pus above because I tend to overheat as well and I just tend to broil inside the jacket if it is warmish and wet. Not bad when it is cool though.0 -
A berghaus blue jacket! Its very waterproof, great at keeping the wind at bay but it does get hot.
I would rather be warm even with sweating than be wet and cold through the rain getting in. Driving rain in bitter easterly winds is best kept on the outside of my jacket.fly like a mouse, run like a cushion be the small bookcase!0 -
At the mo I use an Endura Stealth which is great until the weather warms up. Also have a Paramo Adventure Light smock, which works well. Very breathable, a little warm, but OK with just a thin base layer. Plenty of venting.
Had the original Endura eVent which was also great, but lost it! Couldn't believe it, but someone at Dalby got a free gift one day last year. Ideal jacket, one of the most breathable I'd used except for the Paramo, but not as warm, which is good in a bike jacket. Only bought the Paramo out of tightness! Not that it's cheap, just that the waterproofing will reproof indefinitely.
The replacement for the eVent has a PTFE membrane. They reckon it's more breathable again, but not seen one.
Really your choice depends on how much you sweat! If it's a lot, you'll benefit more from the more expensive jackets, if not much then save your cash & get something cheap.0 -
I`m a soft shell man myself but then I don`t go out if it`s raining.Smarter than the average bear.0

eVent stuff seems to work - the theory is that as well as having a high breathability rating, it also breathes with or without body heat, so it should still breathe even when you stop for a break. I'm always a bit sceptical of marketing hype, but having used an eVent jacket it seems to pretty much live up to the hype. I think Gill used to do a cheaper one, and if I remember right maybe Pace as well (might be wrong on Pace).0 -
Blimey - I'm none the wiser LOL :shock:0
