My external BB bearings are knacked and i am looking for a upgrade. I have a commencal meta 5, 2009 model but don't know the BB shell size. From the info i have it can be 68mm or 73mm can anyone help ?

Also i have a truvativ GXP crank set so do i have to buy a truvativ external BB? I am going to fit myself so i want to get it right.

Any help & tips would be great.

does not matter as they fit both.

yes you need a truvative compatible one. Hope do do a GXP converter for their as do other companies.

if you can get a hope one with the convertor, do it. They're expensive but they last quite some time and the bearings are replacable so end up being fairly cost effective in the long run. Truvativ bottom brackets are rubbish.

    Thanks :D

Looked at Hope. I can afford one but was a bit nervous fitting, to much conflicting info.
The Hope site help video says you need a fitting tool to convert it, would prefer to fit a cheaper one first in case i mess it up.

Take it to your LBS, if in doubt. I'm afraid i can't tell you anything about fitting the convertor as i've never had to use one.
And yes, hope come in shiny colours :)

If you have a half inch socket set you have the tool need to fit the converter. All you do is put the bearing cup on a flat surface fit the converter in by hand select a socket that is big enough to sit on the converter but small enough to fit in the cup. Get a soft mallet and give socket a thump till converter fits in bearing, turn cup over and do the other side.

Or spend £20 on a superstar one. No faffing with adaptors then. No idea how well they last, but it's less than 1/3 the cost of the Hope.
