Budget Forks

This question has probably been asked many a time, but i'm young and my birthday's coming up. I am looking for some new forks for my hardtail - i like the rockshox recon sl and also the manitou drake or R7 elite. I've heard good reviews of the recon's, but does anyone know if the manitou's are any good?
Thanks

dont bother with the Manitou.
get the recon."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I've had nothing but problems from my old Manitou Blacks (kept leaking from somewhere. One day it would be the rebound knob then the next the top of the stanchion)
I eventually gave up and bought some cheap foxes for 50 quid and have never looked back0 -
From those I'd get the Recon.0
-
What bike? What riding? Etc.0
-
+1 for reconEnough bikes to open a bike shop but always room for one more...0
-
I'd rather have a motion control tora over the turnkey recons. The weight difference will be a bummer, but the control makes it worthwhile.0
-
Okay it looks like the recon is the best so far. Are there any other forks people recommend for around 200 quid?
And my riding style is cross country/trail.
Thanks0 -
I'd take a Tora with motion control over a recon with turnkey anyday, for the reasons mentioned above.0

+1
but out of your choice i stay with the recon and then maybe add a MoCo cart later."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So what fork do people think is better? The tora with motion control or the recon?
What is motion control by the way?0 -
Adjustable compression damping, from fully open to fully locked.
Results in a smoother, more controlled fork, that can be adjusted to taste.0 -
a recon with MoCo but any MoCo fork is better than the turnkey.
MoCo and Turnkey are names for the damping carts all info on srams webby."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Does anyone know if 120mm of travel on a cube attention would make a big difference? It has 80mm forks at the moment and i know it would affect the geometry, but what difference does it make?0
-
It would slacken the angles and raise the bottom bracket. the steering will feel more stable, but slower.
Is the bike warrantied for 120mm?0 -
Okay. No i don't think so, but i've found motion control recon's for 300? is that a good deal?0
-
Not really, when you can get Rebas for cheaper ;-)
Rebas are lighter and more adjustable.0 -
Have you got a link for some cheaper reba's please?0

I'm in the same siutuation - looking for budget fork at around £200. Local bike shop suggested Marzocchi Bombers at £225. Are these comparable with the Recon's?0
-
Which Bombers?0
-
Not sure mate - bit the bullet anyway and bought a pair of recon race for the same price0
-
On the Tora V recon talk....
Which is plusher once bedded in, the Tora SL or the Recon SL?
I havnt seen any tora's of Recons for sale that actually mention MoCo? :?0 -
Exactly the same when bedded in.
The Race, 318 and 351 versions have moco.0 -
Cheers supersonic, your a wealth of knowledge!

haha I wish, Im really stretching myself to afford the tora's that are about a third of the price!0 -
Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm in a similar position. I need a new pair of forks to replace a pair of dead Manitous with a budget of about £200.
They will be going on a Marin Pallisades Trail for XC riding and I only need 100mm travel. I don't want anything too heavy but really lightweight is going to be out of my ££ reach. I would love some Rebas but unless I'm lucky shopping around I don't know if I can stretch. Any suggestions?Blogging about junior road bikes http://junior-road-bikes.tumblr.com0 -
For that money look for a Tora or Recon Race - or add a fifty and get a reba.0
