replacing bottom bracket

Hi im replacing my bottom bracket on my Focus cayo which has a Truativ Elita double chain set, now can I use any external type as long as I get the right thread or do I have to use the Truativ GXP BB, thinking of buying Shimano

truvativ and shimano arent compatible, not sure if the hope gxp bb converter will work with a shimano bb though but then again it might

shimano will fit the bike but not the truvativ chainset.
