Removing cantilever bosses
I have an old steel frame which I'm building up for a fixed wheel, it's got cantilever bosses on it and I'm toying with the idea of removing them and just running calipers, either a single one on the front or one on the rear as well (It has the holes in place for calipers allready)
Can I carefully cut the bosses off and file the remains back to the tube or will it comprimise the strength of the tubes?
I also want to remover the bridge for the cable on the back which would have held the cable in place for the cantilevers and the cable guides for the gear cable
Any advice would be great.

You should be able to screw the bosses out of the frame and then fit some blanks like Upgrades Little BlankersNeil

The canti bosses can be removed by cutting and filing, just be careful when you get close to the seatstays as they aren't particularly thick.Paul 8v wrote:I also want to remover the bridge for the cable on the back which would have held the cable in place for the cantilevers and the cable guides for the gear cable

Done this myself, can't remember if I cut with a hacksaw or bolt cutters. As above cut away from the seatstay and file carefully smooth and use wet n dry.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Excellent, glad it can be done. It's a proper old school one wooliferikins, unfortunately it's all one piece and won't unscrew0
