8 speed chain/9 speed crankset

I need to replace the drivetrain on my Giant CRS-1, currently equipped with an 8 speed cassette and triple front.
I seem to be finding good deals on a Deore stuff online, but these are 9 speed.
How well would an 8 speed chain work on this spec' chainset?
I don't want the expense of changing the shifters etc if I can avoid it.
Very grateful for any advice.

yup 8spd chains do work on 9spd chainrings
