Is facing disc brake mounts on a new fork necessary?

Planning to fit Avid Elixirs to a prevously unused set of forks with post mount fittings. Park Tools website suggests facing of the mounts is necessary, but I've never heard of anyone getting this done. Is it necessary?
Nothing about it on the Avid fitting instructions.

nope.
there is not tool for Post mount."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Cheers, Nick! That was what I hoped. Should I lightly file/sand the paint off before mounting or just mount on top of it? I thought mounting without removing some might cause the paint to crack around the edges of the mount. You don't need eyes to see, you need vision0

depends on the brakes.
generally yes. but Avids dont need it but it can help if there is too much crap on the mounts which can allow noise."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

There are a couple of makes that have post rear mounts but I think its harder to build post mount frames so for the foreseeable future its probably going to be expensive hand made frames only.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
