Hello copperthorpe, the good news is that the search tool is really good ( ) and I managed to find several threads that seem to apply:

If you've got contents insurance, check you policy and see what it covers. I've just renewed my buildings/contents and went for a policy that covered me for the value of the bike, £1,000, and made sure it covered me for use away from the home and accidental damage.
I believe you can buy seperate insurance, specifically to cover your bike, but you may as well see if you're already covered, or how much extra it would cost to add it to your current policy.Limited Edition Boardman Team Carbon No. 448

All the insurance premiums I've looked at so far had a £500 excess for damage to other property (3rd party liability). As this would be one of prime reasons for taking bike insurance I was rather put off. Are they all the same in this respect?0
