Helmet Hygiene
I've have just spied my helmet straps and they look cack.
Sweaty build up from a long time.
Emergency quick clean with washing up liquid as all there is in the office.
For a proper wash, is it safe to dump the helmet in the washing machine - probably in a pillow case.
Any other ideas or advice to keep the scum away from my chin and neck.

Will the straps not detach from the helmet so you can wash them separately?
I cannot imagine that washing the whole helmet in the washing machine will do it any good, even at low temperatures!0 -
No they are permanently attached.
Its not some cheap a*se make either : Giro Atmos.FCN 4 summer

Even more reason not to put it on the spin cycle then!!!
Best I can think of is to find something like an ice cream tub to fill with warm soapy water, balance the helmet on the top and dangle the straps in to soak for a while.0 -
I always take mine into the shower with me after a ride and give it a good lather and rinse downExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

I put mine in the sink to soak, standing on a pan or similar, so that the straps are in the water but the polystyrene isn't0

Take it in the shower with you or put in the dishwasher (low temp) or washing machine (low temp wash, low agitation eg 30deg Wool and no spin). Works fineM.Rushton0
