Im after a cheap compact chainset for use with a 10 Speed 105 setup and wondered wether the Tiagra/Sora models would work with 10 speed despite them supposedly being only 9speed.
Any ideas or experiances of this?

yes it would but the gap between the chain rings maybe be a little wider. If you could afford the 10 speed one it would be alot stiffer and lighter0

Tiagra works fine, so will Sora. The only chainset with wider gap between the chainrings is new 6700 Ultegra (and probably new 7900 DA), all others are the same.Jens says "Shut up legs !! "

so its the jumps between chainrings rather then teeth profile?
I cant imagine that much stiffness or weight difference between Tiagra and 105....0 -
Teeth profiles no probs, the only difference in the chains between 8,9 and 10 speed are the chain widths, that`s how they squeeze a 10 speed cassette into the space of an 8 speeder.
Not a great deal of difference between Tiagra and 105, the 105 has hollw crank arms, the Tiagra has rebates in the back of the solid crank arms, achieves the same thing. You`ll not notice any difference in stiffness unless you borrow Chris McHoy`s legs
Tiagra perfectly good choice, look very similar to the 105, and old 6600 Ultegra, buy the compact Tiagra and the 4500 bottom bracket, and get the lot for £55.00 ish
