Campag Veloce hub - can freebody be changed to Shimano?

Unfortunately chain snapped a few days ago. Been mulling over decision whether to give old chain new link or buy new chain and new drivetrain along with it.

Big problem is I have a Shimano drivetrain with a campagnolo rear hub and cassette.

Can I change the hub body to Shimano?

I don't really mind any hassle that's come with it if it is actually possible, because I intend to keep the bike for a long time.

Thanks for any advice

I'm not aware of a Shimano compatible freehub for a Veloce hub.
You can get a Shimano one for the factory built wheels like Boras etc but they are expensive. If I remember correctly they wont fit your hub.
You can get a new spacer set to alloy you to re-space your campag cassetee to Shimano spacing though.

    Something like this might work:

    No promises like though.

You may find that a freehub body for something like a Fulcrum Racing 5 or 7 will fit, which are available in Campag or Shimano pattern. I have an old set of Racing 5s and I'm pretty sure the hubs are the same as the Veloce or Mirage cartridge bearing hubs.

The Campag Khamsin wheelset is also available in a Shimano fitment and probably uses the same hub.

Have a look at the spare parts pdfs on the Campag and Fulcrum websites, this will tell you if the part number for the Veloce freehub is the same as either of the above.

Alternatively, you could buy a 105 rear hub for about the same money, but of course this means rebuilding the wheel.

Mirage are cartridge bearing hubs, and if i remember correctly Veloce are ball bearing with cup and cone.
  • If your transmission is 10 speed you can buy an Ambrosio cassette which has a Campag spline for Campag freehub and Shimano spacing for Shimano gears . Available from Chain reaction cycles.

    Spot on Wappy!

I had a look at the chain and found it to be a Shimano HG chain. It has lasted a very long time and the shifts are generally very smooth when adjusted properly so I have decided to just purchase and fit a new chain without the hassle of changing everything.

If a deal on a pair of new wheels comes up will sort out the drivetrain setup.

Cheers for all the advice! Much appreciated!
