dual chainring chain length

I have removed my outer chainring and put a bash guuard on to replace it

i am aware how to size the chain length with an outer chainring (big to big with 2 extra chain links)

Is it a good idea to consider the middle ring the "largest" now and follow the same theory? or will this have a bad effect on the rear mech angles when im in small to small?

just want to stop chain from being slack but dont want to remove to many links

thanks

to add im running a blackspire stinger and also need to know if this will make any odds to how much i should shorten the chain

cheers

But you shouldn't really be running small-small anyway. You can get the same ratio by running middle (or now 'big) on the front, and a middle cog on the back.

yeah i agree but i needed to know if it would have been better to leave out a few more links

as it goes ive shortened it big to big with 2 extra links and the rear mech is now holding alot more tension - job done :)

Yup, but it's still sensible to allow enough chain to cover all of the combos should you mess up in the heat of the moment, it's easily done.
