i will be doing a trip in nov for charity. im a mountain biker at heart and never been on a road bike. i have seen a claud butler echelon for £489, http://www.holcroscycles.com/productdetail/23/2245/Claud-Butler-Echelon-Road-Bike-(2009).html . what are peoples opinions or suggestions for other bike in that price range.

I'd look into a tourer, not a road bike..maybe Dawes Galaxy
    Say... That's a nice bike..

  • Best of luck for the challenge. I think that any bike you decide on should be able to also fit mudguards (whether it's clip on roadracer ones or bolt on ones), Scotland in November isn't going to be the driest place to cycle, and countless miles with wet clothing won't allow you to enjoy (!) yourself.

The right bike will depend on whether or not you have to carry your gear? Is it a supported or unsupported trip? Are you camping or staying in B&Bs?
    More problems but still living....

we'll be camping, but all the gear will be transported in a vehicle for us. i'm happy with that.
