Tyre problems - help!
Hi,
Apologies if this is a stupid question.
I have just purchased a Boardman Hybrid Team bike as part of my C2W scheme. I had the Maxxis Denotar 700x28X tyres swapped as I wanted somethign with a bit more grip for my work journeys (I often take canal path routes etc). Halfords fitted Knobbly 700x35C tyres.
So far in two weeks, I've had two inner tubes blow on me, plus two punctures. Each time the tube has blown, I haven't inflated the tyre beyond 65psi, the max is 75psi.
Tonight I noticed that when I inflated the front tyre beyond 45psi, it is ballooning near the valve and pulling the tyre away from the wheel.
Why is this happening? Is it a pinched inner tube or just rubbish tyres/tube?
I've been cycling for a good number of years and my old Giant bike has never given me as much trouble as my new Boardman has in less than a month.

Have all the punctures been near the valve?
It sounds like you're not seating the tyre and tube properly. There are a few things you can do about this:
1/ Partially inflate the tube before fitting it to the wheel
2/ Pour some talcum powder into the tyre and rotate the tyre so the inside gets a good coating (this will help the tube move around against the tyre when it gets inflated)
3/ Once the tyre is properly seated, just make your way round the tyre rocking it back and forth on the wheel. Again, this helps to work the tube into the tyre and remove and pinched areas on the tube
4/ Don't use levers to replace the tyre
You might also want to make sure that your rim tape is correctly installed.

I'll have a look, but would add that Halfords fitted it...........so in theory it should be ok
Tubes blew in various places, first was along the mould line and the second around where I'd repaired a puncture. Punctures were down to a metal pin.
To be honest I'm a bit fed up with it. Been back to Halfords about 4 or 5 times in the last 4 weeks. Firstly gears were set-up poorly, then the two blown tubes and then the puncture. The guy has also refitted the tyre with the tread now running the other way. (which bugs me).0 -

"Halfords do NOT treat their shop staff well or pay them well but generally the staff are a damn sight better than other retailers.
The demands placed on store staff are excessive with the product and offers advertised. Struggling under a gazebo with a set of rusted wiper blades on a freezing winters day is no joke for £5.45 an hour with an articulated wagon at the goods in door with 115 bikes waiting to be unloaded by the same person.
Halfords operate on a payroll shoestring with insufficient staff. Their new systems are rubbish and the staff somehow have to manage but complaints are always the store staffs fault. This is against a back drop of some customers knowing if they cry loud enough they`ll get something for nothing even if they are not being totally honest. "
