Assuming I leave the same cassette, is there a quick and easy way to work out how many links to take off a chain if I go from standard 53 teeth to 50 teeth? Woudl it mean 3 links less? Thanks

I recently changed from a standard double to a compact, 53 to 50.
I never changed a thing, didn't even have to lower the front derailleur any.

One tooth is half a link so you would need to go for taking one or two links out. If you have some tension on the chain when in small/small gear then I would leave it alone.

I took my chain off my standard chainrings the other day, and measured it against the chain taken off my compact chainrings, and it was the same length. Put it on my compact chainrings, and it works fine, and is not loose.

Worked perfectly fine when it was on the standard chainrings as well.
